Veterans Service Committee Chairperson

 
The role of this position is to execute and/or head a committee tasked to execute general support of area veterans and their families.

The primary responsibility of the Veterans Service Committee Chairperson is not to provide unlimited assistance,
but moreover to become knowledgeable regarding local veteran support agencies, the services
they are capable of providing, and to refer veterans and their families
to an appropriate agency for proper assistance.

In fulfilling his/her duties, the Veterans Committee Chairperson will provide general information and limited assistance
pertaining to helping area veterans make contact with appropriate agencies and representatives
that can best assist them with resolution of issues related to benefits, entitlements, and general support.

The Veterans Service Committee Chairperson should avoid engagement in actions that could be
perceived as providing dedicated, professional veterans support
in order to maintain an impartial and unbiased position as well as to limit the
potential for any actual or implied liability to the Chapter as a result of his/her actions.

The Veterans Service Committee Chairperson will be appointed by the Chapter President
and will receive guidance and direction for his/her activities from the Vice President of the Chapter.

Major duties/responsibilities include:

Reviewing information from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Rolling Thunder National, and other reputable and recognized
approved sources to identify general rights, benefits, and entitlements due to honorably discharged veterans and their families.

Meet at least quarterly with "our Department of Veterans Affairs representative / Rolling Thunder TN4 Member Jack Everheart"
to discuss general veterans support issues in order to stay abreast of current policies and legislation impacting upon the
benefits and entitlements to honorably discharged veterans and their families.

Identifying, compiling, and distributing as may be directed, a listing of approved
veteran support agencies in the local operating area of the Chapter.

This "point of contact" listing should include:

Agency Name
Agency Location
Agency Point of Contact
Telephone Number and/or Email address of the contact representative
A short, concise summary of the services offered and activities this agency can/does provide in support of veterans and/or their families

Identify and provide to the Chapter Webmaster, in a msword.doc file format,
major veteran support agency phone numbers and website addresses
that may be considered for posting on the Chapter's website.

Preparing a one page, monthly summary report due in on the 1st of each month
"in a msword.doc file form" on the committee's activities for the preceding month.

This report will include:

Veterans Service Committee Chairperson Name:
Date of the Report
Report for the Month of:__/ 200_
Monthly Activities Summary
Number of veterans contacted
Types of issues addressed
Number of referrals made to other veteran support agencies
Any unusual or significant veteran related issues

Distribution of approved information contained in the monthly report to the Chapter
membership by providing briefings at monthly chapter meetings.

Providing/recommending key legislative links in a msword.doc file format
that may be considered for posting on the Chapter's website.

Is to meet with the Chapter President and Vice President on an as needed basis
to discuss the duties, responsibilities, expectations, and limitations of their positions.

Other duties as may be directed by the President or Vice President of the Chapter.
