Proper
Placement |
|
If you take
a look at the Vests of other Rolling thunder®
Members including those of our National Leadership Folks
you won't
see much of a pattern so far as patch placement goes.
In
an effort to to give our TN3 Members a shot at having a uniform appearance
we're
showing you a layout of what we would like to see.
Rolling
Thunder Constitution, Rev. 11/4/06, Page 7, No. 10:
All
membership patches will come from National. Membership patches
are the property of Rolling Thunder® National.
Patch # 1
Your American Flag
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
What ever form of it you put on your vest it absolutely goes over your heart.
Patch # 2
Your TN3 Chapter Patch
We
prefer
to see it
located about 1" inch under your American Flag.
This 1"
inch space is where your Name tag or I.D. Pin fits which can be for a
standard name tag
you can have
made up at any place that does engraving or it can be used for displaying
a President,
Vice President, Treasurer, or Board Member pin, ect, ect.
|
6" Strip Patch |
2nd choice "4 1/2" Strip Patch |
3rd choice |
Patch #3
The Rolling Thunder® Strip patch
There are 3
options available of the Members Only Strip Patch
We
prefer
that you locate your strip patch on your right upper chest for two reasons.
The first
is so people can easily see your a Rolling Thunder Member.
The 2nd
reason is when you appear in photos from the front people can see
your a Rolling Thunder member.
|
The
1st is 6" inches across
$5.00 |
|
The
2nd is 4.5" inches
$5.00 |
|
The
3rd is 4" inches
$4.00 |
Rolling
Thunder Constitution, Rev. 11/4/06, Page 7, No. 12:
Any
chapter of Rolling Thunder®
may have their chapter logo made into a patch for its members use
only. If the logo patch indicates any state or area or a
specific part of a state or area, it will only be displayed on the
front of the member's vest/jacket. There will be nothing
displayed on the back of the members vest/jacket that indiciates any
specific state or specific are of said state.
Patch #4
Your Rolling Thunder® Boot Patch
We'd Prefer to see Your Boot patch located on the lower right side of your vest.
It
absolutely cannot be located on the back of your vest.
In the
Motorcycle Club World @ M.C., it would defines a territory
which is
something we are not permitted to do because we are not an MC.
A Rocker + Territory patch located on the back of a vest = an M.C.
Rolling
Thunder Constitution, Rev. 11/4/06, Page 7, No. 11:
No
chapter of Rolling Thunder®
shall ever add the letters "MC" to their Rolling Thunder®
back patch. This organization is not and never will be a
motorcycle club or organization. If a chapter of Rolling Thunder®
authorizes a chapter member (s) to wear any type of territorial patch
on the back of their vest/jacket, they will be fined $500.00 for the
first offense. The second offense will result in the
termination of the Chapter's charter.
Patch #5
Your Rolling Thunder® Eagle & Rocker Patch
Absolutely nothing can be be located between your Eagle and your Rocker Patch
We
Prefer your E&R Patch set to be mounted high on your vest.
A few good
reasons for this are:
When a person is riding a motorcycle like an Ultra Classic if the patch was mounted low on the vest it wouldn't be as visible.
When you have
two riders on your motorcycle the passenger totally covers the lower
part of the drivers vest.
Some people
like it mounted lower so that their hair doesn't cover it over but in reality
most
folks that ride scooters have their hair done up in a pony tail so it
doesn't actually hamper our efforts for maximum visability.
Some people
like it mounted lower so they can have a Veteran Patch or POW-MIA
related patch above it.

While
we're on the subject of offensive
In this last
section please bear in mind that this is only advice and it's your vest,
were just
passing along a hard learned embarrassing
lesson here.
Something
you want to think about before you sew a really kewl
possibly
offensive to someone patch on your Rolling Thunder Vest is where your headed.
You will find that while your in our Rolling Thunder Organization one day sooner or later you will see yourself on CNN, FOX, CSPAN, ABC, CBS, or your local news station or paper as most of us have. When that happens you'll also find out that there is alot of people out there who don't share your sense of humor or at least they won't admit it.
When your out
and about hanging with your buds at your local biker bar or
motorcycle rally expressing your self it may look and be pretty kewl
but the next thing you know your captured in a photo while escorting
a Gold Star Mother in a heart felt moment in a ceremony with tears in
your eyes in front of a few thousand people while your in Washington
on Memorial Day weekend. We speak to Congressmen, Senators and
Governors, children at local schools educating them about Veterans
and POW/MIA issues. Were seen on National and local television
standing in honor at one of our many KIA Soldiers Funeral Services.
The list goes on and on.
A pretty
good rule to go by is if you wouldn't mind
your 6 year
old reading and reciting it back to your mother most folks won't mind
it either.
An
easy solution to the problem where you can have your cake and eat it to,
Carry
along some black duct tape and prior to entering a sensitive
situation simply temporarily cover it up.

Here are some examples of common patches we personally don't take offence with but others in the public can.
